How we verify APKs
Independent catalog
APKzona is not Google Play and not an official device-vendor store. We accept builds with a clear source: developer site, GitHub Releases, F-Droid, and similar open channels. Verification aims to reduce obvious risks and give you enough metadata for independent checks — not to issue a certificate of absolute safety.
How file checks work
A typical moderation flow includes one or more of the following (depending on submission type and available data):
1. APK metadata review: package name, versionName / versionCode, size, ABIs, minSdk / targetSdk.
2. Signature capture or comparison: certificate fingerprint (when available) so users can match it to the developer’s official release.
3. File hash: SHA-256 (and size when relevant) shown on the listing for source comparison.
4. Source: developer direct link, trusted repository, or other documented origin.
5. Submission status: material may stay pending until staff publishes it.
6. Manual badges (“Verified”, “Official”, “Ad-free in APK”, and similar) are set by moderation after review — catalog labels, not a Google license.
7. Optional: hash checks via VirusTotal or similar scanners — reputation signals, not final verdicts.
8. User reports: report form on the app page and email to contact@apkzona.com.
Not every file receives the same depth of checks: updates to known packages with a matching signature may be reviewed faster than a first upload of an unknown package.
What “Verified” means
A verified badge or status on APKzona means moderation performed the steps above to a reasonable extent and, at publication time, did not find obvious contradictions in metadata, source, or known signals.
It means:
- the submission passed the catalog’s internal process;
- listing data for independent verification is available where shown;
- the material may be re-reviewed if substantiated reports appear.
What “Verified” does NOT mean
Verification does not mean or guarantee:
- that the file is 100% safe on every device at every time;
- approval by Google, the OS vendor, or the app developer;
- absence of vulnerabilities, trackers, or unwanted behavior;
- legality of installation in your country or compliance with your software license;
- that future updates of the same package will stay the same;
- that antivirus engines will never change their verdict.
Antivirus heuristics and Play Protect can false-positive. A clean scanner report is not proof of absolute safety.
User responsibility
Installation decisions are yours. We recommend you:
- compare package name and signature with the developer’s official APK;
- match SHA-256 with the listing and the source;
- review requested permissions;
- avoid disabling system protections unless necessary;
- avoid unknown mirrors outside the listing;
- when unsure — do not install, and file a report or email contact@apkzona.com.
Reporting malware
If you see suspicious behavior after installing a file from APKzona:
1. Use the report form on the app page.
2. Include versionCode / SHA-256 and a short description of the behavior (network, SMS, account access, etc.).
3. Attach a scanner report or logs when possible.
4. For urgent cases, also email contact@apkzona.com with subject “Security” or “Malware report”.
We aim to acknowledge security reports within 1–2 business days and re-review the material with priority. Substantiated findings may lead to version removal, warning labels, or uploader account restrictions.
Process limits
Verification is a human and automated process with limits: novel threats, packed code, delayed malicious behavior, and supply-chain attacks may not appear during moderation. The catalog is not a full security audit and is not an antivirus vendor.
